Ingredients
1 pound of pasta (such as rigatoni or penne)
1 pound of ground beef (or a mix of ground beef and pork)
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 can of crushed tomatoes
1 cup of beef or chicken broth
1 teaspoon of dried oregano
1 teaspoon of dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
4 tablespoons of butter
1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
3 cups of milk
A pinch of nutmeg
1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
Olive oil for cooking
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Directions
Cook the pasta until al dente, then set aside.
Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil, then brown the ground beef.
Add crushed tomatoes, broth, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper to make the bolognese sauce.
Create a roux with butter and flour, then whisk in milk to make bechamel sauce.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Layer pasta, bolognese sauce, bechamel sauce, and cheeses in a baking dish.
Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Let it rest before serving, garnish with parsley if desired.
