Sunday Sauce with Sausage and Meatballs

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1/2 pound Italian sausage, casings removed

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 onion, diced

1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes

1 can (14 ounces) tomato sauce

1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, 2 cloves of minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add diced onion and remaining 2 cloves of minced garlic, sauté until onion is translucent.
Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste to the pot. Stir well to combine.
Add dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper to the sauce. Stir well.
Place meatballs in the sauce, ensuring they are submerged. Cover and simmer on low heat for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
After 2 hours, add Italian sausage to the pot. Simmer for an additional hour until the meatballs and sausage are cooked through.
Serve the Sunday sauce with sausage and meatballs over cooked pasta or as desired.
